Red-Bellied Woodpecker in Tropical Park, Miami, Florida

Very interesting – I lived in Miami for four years and had no idea we had woodpeckers there! I only ever saw little parrots flying around everywhere. Someone told me they escaped from a bird park during a big hurricane but I have not idea if that’s true.
We were walking in Tropical Park and heard this banging. Looked up and it was a woodpecker. And had to come home and search Wikipedia, my source for all things. And sure enough, they are popular in this area. However, Tropical Park isn’t a woodland, it’s quite and open area.
