The Red-bellied Woodpeckers are pale, medium-sized woodpeckers common in forests of the East. Their strikingly barred backs and gleaming red caps make them an unforgettable sight – just resist the temptation to call it a Red-headed Woodpecker, a somewhat rarer species that’s mostly black on the back with big white wing patches. Learn the Red-bellied’s rolling call and you’ll notice these birds everywhere. – All About Birds

Beautiful shot. Observe this type of woodpecker often in our area as well as other varieties. Your link to “all birds” is excellent, by the way. Thank you for sharing.
Glad the All Birds link was useful to you. Thanks for commenting.
Very cool! Nice shot.
Very interesting – I lived in Miami for four years and had no idea we had woodpeckers there! I only ever saw little parrots flying around everywhere. Someone told me they escaped from a bird park during a big hurricane but I have not idea if that’s true.
We were walking in Tropical Park and heard this banging. Looked up and it was a woodpecker. And had to come home and search Wikipedia, my source for all things. And sure enough, they are popular in this area. However, Tropical Park isn’t a woodland, it’s quite and open area.
Great shot! He’s a cutie
Wow, what an awesome capture!!!
