The Top Honeymoon Destinations In The UK

Where is the perfect honeymoon destination you ask? St Lucia? The USA? What about Italy or Santorini in Greece? While these places are great there’s nothing quite like a honeymoon in the UK. With beautiful surroundings and diverse landscapes, the UK is the perfect place to come to celebrate and enjoy your honeymoon.

Some prefer the more relaxing experience and that’s what you get in the United Kingdom. So much on offer from amazing landmarks and amenities as well as fantastic nightlife and friendly people. That’s what makes this place really great.

Let’s find out where to visit on your next honeymoon short break in the UK.

The Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands are one of the most popular places to visit anywhere in the UK and it’s not really surprising why.  With its rugged mountain ranges, scenic castles, solitude, fantastic coastlines and general mythical vibe, you can plan so much and make memories that last a lifetime with your husband or wife.

Of course, there’s the legendary Loch Ness Monster which is worth a visit (if you can spot her) and other fantastic outdoor pursuits.

#1 Visit the city of Inverness

From culture and sightseeing to shopping and nightlife, Inverness is the capital of the Highlands of Scotland and the gateway to the far North. With lots to do here we suggest taking a day or two out on your adventure to really sample the life here. With Loch Ness nearby and the famous Boath House and restaurant (with some of the best food we’ve tasted), there’s lots to enjoy. We suggest planning ahead weather wise as Scotland can be really unpredictable. This adds to its allure, the unpredictability of it all.

#2 Experience Glen Finnan Viaduct

You can’t come on your honeymoon adventure to the Highlands and not visit the Glen Finnan Viaduct. One of the most photographed places in the country and made famous by Harry Potter. It’s a fantastic place to come to get some awesome photos to look back on. Not far from Fort William, make a day of it by visiting both.

#3 Eilean Donan Castle

Located on the Isle of Skye, it’s one of the most famous castles in Scotland. Worth a look and more. We suggest a longer visit to the Isle of Skye. It’s a real treasure in its own right. Add a few days here as part of your overall honeymoon Itinerary.

The Scottish Highlands should seriously be considered the place to come for your honeymoon. One last tip is wherever you’re visiting let your hotel or booking agent know that you’re on your honeymoon and they will usually go above and beyond by leaving little extras in your room or suite.

The Lake District in the heart of England

Heading further south now to the scenic Lake District.  With its high mountains, amazing landscapes, quaint villages & cottages along with the well-known National Park, the Lake District is a honeymooners paradise if you’re looking to discover and explore your surroundings.

The Lake District has a real romance about it all. With its many lakes where visitors can enjoy unrivaled views on a cruise to enjoying a pint of beer in a traditional pub with the locals – it really is a place to get lost in.

With the Lake District being a UNESCO World Heritage Site why wouldn’t you to come here to enjoy the best time in your life? Check out some of the places to visit in this vast region:

#1 Visit the beauty of Ennerdale Water

This is a real secluded romantic spot. Ennerdale Water is located in the Western lakes. It’s quite a hidden spot so you’ll need to drive through a significant part of the Lake District to get to it.  This adds to its attraction.  It’s a quiet spot even during peak tourist season so visitors can experience unrivalled views as well as enjoying a glass of prosecco and a picnic during the warmer summer months.

#2 See Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park

This is a real fantastic area to visit. Whether you take a cruise or just explore by the side, Lake Windermere is a treasure in all of its own. 18 km miles long, it’s the biggest lake in England.

What’s good about here is there are a couple of picturesque towns which should encompass your visit here. With Bowness-on-Windermere near to the Lake and Ambleside which is located at the North end. Great for walks, café’s and more, come here to relax with your loved one.

The Lake and its surrounding towns are definitely the most popular places to visit in the whole of the Lake District.  So much is to be discovered here as part of your overall trip here.

#3 Holker Hall & Gardens

Within the Lake District there are several castles, gardens and country houses to visit but Holker Hall & Gardens is a stand out for us.  Near to the scenic Morecombe Bay, Holker Hall offers a real romantic setting for visiting couples to explore and unwind within the lush green countryside landscape as well as experiencing the classy Holker Hall itself.

The Lake District is one of our favourite places to visit. It’s even better for honeymooners with so much to explore and experience in the vast landscape of the Lake District. You can find untouched lands and places where you can enjoy alone without the hustle and bustle of other tourists.

The Scenic Cotswolds in South England

Further south again we look to the beautiful Cotswolds. This place is really made for newlyweds and their honeymoon. With excellent spots for food, its attractive mountain views and charming villages; what’s not to love? Added to this, back in 1966 the area was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We suggest taking a day or two out here as there’s so much to do. With outdoor exploration in hiking and biking to relaxing in the many eateries in the quaint villages, it’s an area to create memories and explore.

Here are some of our favourite attractions in the Cotswolds:

#1 Woodchester Valley Vineyard

This is a fun and different type of experience for a newlywed couple to try out when visiting the Cotswolds. Winchester Valley covers three vineyards in the South Cotswolds area. The team here grow ten different types of grapes here throughout the season.

With tours, tasting and places to stay, we suggest visiting one of the most popular and widely acclaimed winery’s in the area.

#2 Kiftsgate Court Garden

With three generations of gardeners looking after this beautiful area since 1918 it’s a must visit. The gardens at Kiftsgate have evolved substantially over the years and they’ve become a place to enjoy a stroll with your loved one as part of your overall trip to the Cotswolds.

With several different gardens to visit, a tearoom and garden shop, you can really lost for hours. A secret gem of the Cotswolds.

#3 C-Side Spa

Probably the best spa in the Cotswolds is the C-Side Spa at Cowley Manor. This a place to come and really kick back with your husband or wife. With two amazing pools; one 17m indoor and 15m outdoor that are both heated all year round. The area outside comes alive in the summer months with a bar and sun loungers. For those couples looking to keep up with their fitness routine while away there is a top class gym onside too.  Added to this a full range of treatments are available in the 4 treatment rooms.

The Cotswold is romance in every sense of the word. With diverse attractions much like its landscape it’s a one of the best honeymoon destinations in the United Kingdom.

The Isle of White

The Isle of White is a place where dreams are made for honeymooners with its unrivalled scenery and endless beach coastline. With romantic eateries to rival that of those destinations already mentioned, it ticks all the boxes in a honeymoon should be. Being another area awarded an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, no wonder it’s become a favourite for couples.

Let’s now find out where to discover when honeymooning here:

#1 Robin Hill Country Park

We all love a theme park and this one is great for couples with special themed nights which are perfect without the kids around.  Ride and slide your way around this unique theme park surrounded by 88 acres of scenic countryside and beautiful green land.

#2 Carisbrooke Castle

One of the most romantic castles anywhere in the UK is Carisbrooke. The castle has served various purposes over the centuries. From a prison to summer residence for the royals. There’s lots to do here for couples including the Edwardian garden and unrivalled views from the high castle. Enjoyed a donkey experience and visit the museum to learn more on the castles history.

#3 Brading Roman Villa

This is a unique attraction that offers couples something different from the other attractions that we’ve mentioned. Learn about Roman life in Britain with its visitor centre including its collection of Roman archaeology. Hint: We suggest coming here in the warmer months to enjoy a lovely picnic for two in its onsite cafe.

The Isle of White has so much to offer with its vast heritage as well as scenery. It should be seriously considered when looking to book a romantic honeymoon.

Pembrokeshire in Wales

Love the water? Then you’ll love Pembrokeshire which is located in Wales. Voted to have one of the best and scenic coastlines in the world couples can enjoy a romantic experience like no other. With multiple coastal walks, a variety of amazing water sports and some of the best fish restaurants and seafood anywhere, it’s the place to be.

#1 Pembrokeshire National Park

One of the must visit places here is of course the Pembrokeshire National Park. With loads of wildlife spots along its amazing coastline. The Pembrokeshire Coast Park is great where you’ll discover over 50 beaches, vibrant towns and villages.

#2 Pembrokeshire Castle

This extensive medieval castle has charm in abundance with its oval shape and mill pond landscaped surroundings. With its restoration during the Victoria era it’s a sight to behold. The gatehouse on the outside adds to its allure. With a café along with maze of tunnels and stairs it’s a wonderful place for couples to create more memories and get lost in.

#3 Tenby Castle Beach

Near to the Paragon is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region; Tenby Castle Beach.  The cliff backed beach can disappear at high tide so we suggest to check ahead there is enough beach to enjoy at the right time. View the boats at Caldey Island depart at low tide or bring a picnic with prosecco to relax with on a summers day.

Pembrokeshire is a must visit in Wales at any time of year but it’s also a wonderful honeymoon destination. Not just to its amazing scenic coast and beaches but its wealth of unrivalled seafood and other amenities makes this a place to really create lasting memories for newly married couples.

The UK offers a lot to honeymooners and the areas mentioned should really be on the cards for newlyweds this year.
